From Beginner to Battlefield Champion
Whether you’re a first-timer or a regular player, these strategies will give you the edge over your opponents on Skirmish’s challenging game zones.
Strategy 1: The Flanking Manoeuvre
What It Is: While your team engages the enemy head-on, one or two players quietly move around the side to attack from an unexpected angle.
How to Execute:
- Identify natural cover routes to the enemy’s flank
- Move quietly – speed is less important than stealth
- Wait for your team to create a distraction
- Strike when enemies are focused elsewhere
- Communicate your position to avoid friendly fire
Best Game Zones: This works brilliantly in our Jungle Zone and Village Assault areas where tree cover enables stealthy movement.
Strategy 2: Suppression Fire
What It Is: Keep enemies pinned behind cover while teammates advance. You’re not trying to hit them – you’re preventing them from shooting back.
How to Execute:
- Identify the cover where enemies are hiding
- Fire consistently near their position
- Don’t waste paint – controlled bursts are effective
- Call out when you’re reloading so teammates take over
- Watch for enemies trying to escape
When to Use: Perfect for capturing objectives or rescuing pinned teammates.
Strategy 3: The Buddy System
What It Is: Never move alone. Pair up with a teammate and watch each other’s backs at all times.
How to Execute:
- Choose a reliable partner
- Designate roles – one aggressive, one defensive
- Move in turns – one provides cover while the other advances
- Communicate constantly about what you see
- Avenge each other when one gets hit!
Why It Works: Two sets of eyes spot more threats. Two markers provide mutual protection. One player can revive the other in respawn games.
Strategy 4: The Defensive Anchor
What It Is: In objective games, designate players to hold key positions rather than everyone rushing forward.
How to Execute:
- Identify strategic positions that control sightlines
- Fortify with the most accurate shooters
- Create overlapping fields of fire
- Rotate if positions become compromised
- Call out enemy movements to attacking teammates
When to Use: Essential in Capture the Flag and defend-the-base scenarios.
Strategy 5: The Rush
What It Is: Sometimes, an aggressive all-out attack catches opponents off-guard before they’re prepared.
How to Execute:
- Coordinate the entire team to attack simultaneously
- Move fast – speed creates confusion
- Make noise – intimidation has value
- Spread out slightly to avoid concentrated return fire
- Don’t stop until you hit cover in enemy territory
Risk vs Reward: High risk, high reward. Best used at the start of games or when time is running out.
Bonus Tips
Reading the Terrain: Before each game, study the game zone. Identify cover positions, natural chokepoints, and flanking routes. Knowledge is power.
Managing Your Paint: Running out of paintballs mid-game is a nightmare. Pace your shooting and reload during quiet moments, not when under fire.
Listening: Footsteps, marker sounds, and teammate callouts tell you where action is happening. Experienced players often hear enemies before seeing them.
