PAINTBALL FAQs
We are usually asked about
What is paintball?
Paintball is the fastest growing fun sport in the world. Traditionally paintball is played in a forest where players are divided into two teams and they battle to defend and attack positions in game areas with different scenarios.
Each player is issued with a camouflage suit, protective facemask and goggles a padded hood and a paintball marker (gun), which fires a coloured paint pellet.
Do I have to be physically fit?
Does it hurt?
The objective of the game is to win each ‘mission’ but only by compliance with the strict safety codes of practice, which do not allow shots that are too close. The paint pellets break on impact and there may be a stinging sensation for a short period.
What age do you have to be?
14 years and over. We cater for student games (15 to 18 years) on weekdays only. These are always kept separate to adult games for everyone’s enjoyment.
Is it safe?
Safety standards and observance have the highest priority when running paintball games at Skirmish. Any person, who breaches the safety standards or refuses to comply with an instruction from a marshal, is removed from the game area.
Is Skirmish covered by insurance?
Skirmish has full public liability insurance and a certificate is available to fax or post on request.
How long does it take to play?
There are different options for playing ie fullday, half day, evenings (summer). When you book in we will indicate how long you are going to be on site and the finishing time.
What clothing do I wear?
Wear clothing suitable for outdoors adventures i.e. a tracksuit or something old that you wont worry too much about. Wear old, sturdy footwear and bring a spare pair to change into afterwards.
What clothing is provided?
We provide a camouflage suit and snood (head cover).
Are there changing facilities?
There are male and female changing facilities.
Are there shower facilities?
There are no shower facilities.
What about first aid if required?
Three members of Skirmish staff have completed first aid courses so there is always someone who can help if required. It must be remembered that Skirmish has a second to none safety record and very little treatment if any is ever required.
What about items of value, when we are playing?
Each group is given a basecamp hut, where they assemble to get ready for the game. Each hut has a lockable security box to deposit valuables and the group leader holds the key.
Can I wear glasses?
Glasses can be worn under the facemask. If they are not essential you should try not to wear them. If contact lenses could be worn, this would make it more comfortable.
What type of paintball marker (gun) and mask do we use?
The paintball marker used is a semi-automatic Tippman 98 and the mask is a Scott full-face mask including mouth cover.
Can I bring my own equipment?
Players may bring their own facemask and camouflage suit. Skirmish only operates with markers that are approved by the relevant authorities.
How do the games work?
Groups are divided into two teams. Each of the five game areas has a different scenario so the winning teams success will depend on what that game involves.
Some games involve both teams trying to storm each others camp simultaneously, some are attacking and defending over two legs with the quickest attacking time determining the winner. We try to vary games and make them as interesting and enjoyable as possible.
How many games will we play?
You will play four to five games, depending on which option you chose. Some of these have two halves.
How can I book?
Use booking form here, or email info@skirmish.ie. Select a date and time you want to play. Confirm how many players are in your group. Depending on availability we will provisionally book you in. When you are certain about your details, you can confirm your booking with payment, which has to be done in advance of playing date.
What payment is required and how can I make it?
To secure/confirm your booking, payment of the game fee, per person, must be made in advance. Payment may be made by the following methods; Visa, Amex, Mastercard, Laser, cheque, bankdraft, postal order or cash to our head office.
How much does it cost?
The cost varies between students and adults. There are a variety of packages available depending on weekday, weekend, evenings (summer) or early morning specials.
Is there food available?
We sell hotdogs, and a selection of bars, crisps and drinks.
